Miguel Gomes

Miguel Gomes studied at the Lisbon Film and Theatre School from 1992-1995. His first two films "Meanwhile" (1999) and "Kalkitos" (2002) were shown at several international festivals in Locarno, Vienna and Buenos Aires and received a number of awards. His first feature film "The Face You Deserve" was first shown in Portugal in 2004 and received the Critics’ International Award as well as the Best Cinematography Award at the IndieLisboa Festival in Portugal. "Our Beloved Month of August", his second film, was shown at over forty festivals worldwide, including the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 in the section Directors’ Fortnight. The film received several awards, such as the Fipresci Award at the Viennale in 2008 in Vienna, the Best International Film Award in Buenos Aires in 2009 and the Critics’ Award for the Best International Film in São Paulo in 2008.

Miguel Gomes most recent feature film "Tabu", a Portugese-German-Brasilian-French co-production with O Som e a Fúria, Komplizen Film, Shellac Sud and Gullane Filmes, premiered in competition at the Berlinale 2012 and won the Alfred-Bauer-Award and the Fipresci Prize. The film was sold in over 25 countries and has been shown at numerous international festivals such as BAFICI, New York Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

His latest short film "Redemption" premiered in Venice-Out of Competition 2013 and has been invited to many international festivals.

"Arabian Nights" is Miguel Gomes' most recent feature film, a triptych, celebrated its world premiere in Directors' Fortnight - Cannes 2015.
